 Announcements

Field day has been set for May 28. More information will be coming out, but this would be a good day for sunscreen and a change of clothes. There are usually games that involve water.

The last day of school will be Thursday, June 3rd and will be an early release at 12:50. Please let me know if dismissal will be different that day for your 3rd grader. Students will receive their grade card this day. If you know they will be absent, please send in a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the grade card to be mailed out.

Please start having 3rd graders send in library books. We will no longer be checking them out, and late notices will start coming home soon. Students will not receive their grade card if they have not returned books or paid for a replacement.

This year, 3rd graders would have traveled to the Capitol building in Jefferson City. Since we could not go, we had a virtual field trip on Thursday and Friday! We learned tons of facts about our state capitol, and even got to experience a Jeff City treat from Central Dairy.

In the Classroom

We started our final Reading and Writing unit about Weather and Climate. We have read articles and stories that have helped us with finding main ideas/details and metacognition. In writing, students completed a research project about a type of extreme weather! They worked so hard on this quick research and writing project. On Friday, they had the opportunity to share their work with each other and teach about their topic.

We will begin our final writing piece next week that will hopefully be a keepsake for the students for years to come.

In math this week, we have been focusing on fractions. Students used number lines to compare fractions and their distance away from 0. We also discussed using a benchmark fraction such as 1/2 to help compare.

In science this week, we continued discussing Force. Students learned about parachutes and slinkies and the movement behind them. We used the slo-motion feature on our iPad cameras to record the slinkies moving in various ways! We also looked at Rube Goldberg machines to discuss motion and simple machines.
