Our first field trip was wonderful! Students started by going on a tasting tour where they tried all sorts of new food. Then we went into the schoolhouse to learn about the parts of a flower. We were able to taste an example of each part including turnips, pumpkin seeds, celery, cabbage, and peppers! We of course had an opportunity to try out the playground. Finally, we visited with the hens and reviewed the chicken life cycle.
In the Classroom
In math this week, we have been doing lots of multiplication! Students have been looking at visual representations through the context of a pet store. We are finding equal groups, calculating totals using skip counting, and comparing. For example, I see 3 rows of 4 dog toys and 3 rows of 3 collars. How many more dog toys are there than collars?
In health this week, students have been learning about mental health. We have talked about coping strategies and how our physical health can have an impact.
We began our second reading/writing unit this week. In reading, students used two fables to practice inferring, analyzing plot, and studying character motivations. For this unit, we will be writing an opinion piece based off a text we read. Students analyzed a mentor essay this week and will begin planning their own next week.
We have continued our study of traits in science this week. Students learned how environment can play a role in an organisms' traits.
