Class Flag

We have been discussing communities in Social Studies this week.  For one of our activities, each student was asked to design a flag that represented our class in some way. We looked at many different flags and discussed how some use pictures or colors to stand for something. Once every student designed their flag, students anonymously voted for the one they thought should represent our class. And the winner was.....

Kinleigh! Her flag was laminated and hung above our nation's flag. Congratulations to Kinleigh!

Class Interviews

We started our first writing project today! Students were paired up and given the task of interviewing each other. I had guiding questions, but they were also able to add their own. We will take these interviews through the stages of writing (drafting, editing, revising, and publishing). Completed interviews will be compiled into a class book. Make sure to check it out at Get the Scoop Night!

Me Museum

We had such a good time sharing our Me Museums! I was impressed with all of the explanation cards describing each object. The students first gave a tour of their display to the people in their group. They then got to travel around to different displays to learn about their classmates. Here are some pictures of a few displays:

Comet Commitment

If you are a former Paxton family, you have probably heard of the Paxton Keeley High Five. This year, we are calling those five important character traits the Comet Commitment. Today, each group was in charge of one of the words; kind, safe, cooperative, respectful, and responsible. The group was tasked with describing how that word looks in Paxton by drawings pictures. They were also asked to record what that word sounds like at Paxton Keeley. Here are our posters.

We also read one of my favorite books, Do Unto Otters. This book goes right along with our Comet Commitment, as we learned to treat "otters" the way we would want "otters" to treat us!

First Day!

We had an amazing first day of third grade! It was a whirlwind, but the kids did wonderful, and we accomplished almost everything on the agenda. The biggest thing was making their name tags for their lockers. They turned out great!

I am busy getting the classroom ready for third graders. The library is organized and ready for readers.
