We have had a fabulous 4 days in room 215! We spent time getting to know one other and learning about our classroom.

In the Classroom
In math this week, I asked students to create a game using as many dice and pieces of paper as they wanted. They were so creative coming up their rules and game boards.

We also started our first couple of lessons in our Bridges curriculum. We will be taking the math iReady next week.

In ELA, students began learning about our classroom library and expectations for literacy time. We explored genres and read lots of books together. : )

We used our science/social studies time this week to go over rules, play community building games, and set up our classroom. We will begin government in Social Studies next week, as well as Life Cycles in Science.

May 21, 2026

We have had the best year in room 215! I am so honored to have been a part of each student's journey, and I hope we can keep in touch in the future. If your child is doing summer school, I will see them in the library, as I will be the media specialist. Summer School Open House is May 28th from 4:00-6:00.

We have been having lots of celebrations this past month!

Have a wonderful summer!

We have our MAP testing dates! Third grade will be MAP testing April 20-23. Please refrain from scheduling any appointments during the morning hours on these days. We will begin testing at 8:30. If your student misses these testing days, they will have to do make-up testing when they return.

We had a wonderful field trip to the Jefferson City last week! Our day started at the Secretary of State office where students watched an Archives Alive show. We learned about famous historical moments and figures related to Missouri.

Then we toured the office and were able to see how documents and artifacts are kept safe.

Next, we headed to the Capitol where we met with state legislators. We walked around the Capitol and saw famous Missourian busts, a timeline of Missouri history, and a stagecoach!

We had lunch outside the Capitol building!

Finally we headed back to school to enjoy our Central Dairy treat.

We enjoyed Camp Out day on Friday!

In the Classroom

In reading this week, we used a story called "Rapping Magicians" to practice the skills of summarizing, determining central message, and analyzing character actions.

In writing, students began responding to an informative text about archaeologist Mary Leakey. They are explaining how she changed the world.

We began a Geometry unit in math this week. Students are learning how to name polygons based on their attributes.

We have been loving our Weather Unit these past few weeks in Science! On Monday, we listened to meteorologist Beth Finnelo tell us all about her job!

Also this week, Mrs. Hanson has been working with us on a Lego Wedo project. Students began by studying flooding patterns in Missouri and looking at video of floodgates.

They then began building their floodgates, coded them to open or close when flooding occurred, and finally made an accompanying landscape.
