Parent Teacher Conference Week is already next week! Please let me know if you do not know your scheduled day/time or need to reschedule.

The students had a wonderful time sharing their Valentine cards with each other!

We were also able to complete our Valentine's craft!

On Wednesday, our class went to the Planetarium at Rock Bridge High School. We saw a show about the planets and learned about constellations we can see from our backyard!

On Friday, we had the opportunity to visit the Traveling Trunk Show from the Boone County History and Culture Center! The students loved listening to our guests speak about Boone County, Columbia, and what life was like long ago.

In the Classroom

In math this week, we focused on solving number models that contained parentheses. We also played a math game called Multiplication Top It. Students can access this game and many others from a device at home by going to the CPS homepage and logging into their portal.

In reading this week, students learned about famous African American figures. Students used EPIC books to complete biography reports about people that interested them. We shared our biographies with each other at the end of the week!

Students continued revising and editing their non-fiction pieces this week. While I do not think we will be able to complete them for conferences next week, I will send them home as soon as they are completed!

In our force unit this week, we talked more about pushes and pulls. We also learned about balanced vs. unbalanced forces. Students are working on an interactive bulletin board about forces being all around us.

Conference confirmation times were sent home in the Friday folder last week. Please let me know as soon as possible if you did not receive yours or need to reschedule. It is a Paxton Keeley expectation that I meet with each family face-to-face. Thank you in advance for helping me reach this goal!

On Wednesday, we did another Makerspace challenge with Mrs. Hanson! Students created Valentine cards using a circuit. They did a wonderful job on this challenge, as it was very difficult to accomplish. Students were excellent listeners, did not get frustrated when their circuit didn't work at first, and were excellent helpers for each other. Act surprised if you get this card tomorrow for Valentine's Day! : )

In the Classroom

In math this week, we continued to focus on multiplication. Students learned how to work through a word problem using a multiplication/division diagram. Using this tool, we were able to use multiple strategies for both operations and solve for the unknown letter.

We finally finished our study of non-fiction summary writing! Students focused on finding those main ideas and supporting details for each chapter.

This week, students took their post-test for informational writing. I will be sharing these at our conferences. We also began revising and editing our non-fiction pieces. Students revised with a partner on Tuesday.

We started our next science unit, Force, this week. Students learned about pushes/pulls and how they could beat an adult at tug of war. Ask your third grader to share some of the ideas we discussed!
