Thank you to those families who have already donated to our class basket for the Comet Carnival! Please try to have items sent in by next Friday or you can venmo our room parent to contribute.
In the Classroom
In math this week, students worked on measuring with metric units.
We also practiced adding two-digit numbers using a variety of strategies.
In social studies, we discussed what a citizen is. We learned about rights and responsibilities and took our first social studies assessment on Friday.
In reading, students are using non-fiction texts about animal adaptations to practice skills like asking questions, finding the main idea, and comparing/contrasting. For writing, students began the process of creating an informative piece about how fur helps animals survive. This week, we took notes from two different sources. We will begin drafting our essays next week.
The highlight of our week was definitely in science. We were able to hatch all 12 eggs! Here is a video we got of one of our chicks hatching. (They lovingly named him Potato.)
We were able to study the inside of the eggs, learn about the adaptations chicks have to survive, and of course snuggle our temporary class pets!
