We have our MAP testing schedule. Third grade will be testing 4/29, 5/1, 5/2, and 5/3. Please refrain from scheduling appointments or vacations on these days. We will mainly test in the morning period beginning at 9:30. It is important your third grader is here to avoid having to do make-up testing.
In the Classroom
We did more multiplication and division this week in math. Students played Factor Bingo where they had to strategically fill in their bingo boards with multiples. After I drew a factor card, they could cover one product of that number on the board. It really made everyone think! We also did work with fractions on Thursday by creating a number line together.
Wow! I have been so impressed with the poetry the third graders have created this week. We studied similes and metaphors as our poetry tool this week. Students created "small poems", where I'm from poems, and haikus. Ask your third grader which one they liked the most.
In reading this week, students were administered the AIMS reading test. This consists of a comprehension/vocabulary piece on the computer, as well as an oral reading component done one-on-one with me.
We started our Ecosystems unit in science this week. Students learned about the 4 parts of an ecosystem and how to differentiate between living and non-living. Make sure to check back next week to hear about our hands-on experience involving some of those living things. :)
