Announcements

Thank you for your support to prepare for the Comet Carnival! This is such a fun event for our students and school, and we appreciate all of your donations and help.

We just need one more volunteer for our Fall Party. If you would be willing to send or bring in a snack for the party on October 27, please sign up Here!

Congratulations to Cristiano for receiving the first Paxton Keeley Pride Award! This award is given out weekly to students who demonstrate respect and set a good example for their classmates.

In the Classroom

In math this week, we focused on place value and number stories. Students played a new game called Fishing for Digits which was a modern take on Go Fish. It involved using calculators and thinking about the value of numbers.

We continued working on our small moment stories this week in writing. Students practiced using their senses to include details, as well as how to successfully incorporate transitions. Finally, we discussed beginnings that would hook the reader, tell the setting and characters, and make readers want to keep reading. Here are some examples of our beginnings.

We continued focusing on problem and solution this week. Each student took part in a small reading group where we read fiction chapter books. We talked about how problems can change throughout the story and the steps a character can take to come to a solution.

We also started Global Read Aloud this week! This is a very exciting project that occurs every fall. A book is chosen and teachers are encouraged to follow a reading assignment each week. The best part is connecting with classrooms over the world that are reading the same thing. We also were able to watch a Q and A video with the author of Fenway and Hattie, Victoria Coe.

Mrs. Finke came to our room to do a Breakout Box that went with the book. The students had a blast figuring out the clues to unlock the boxes!

We started our first Science unit, Weather, this week. We started by using a Padlet to make a KWL chart. Students used the iPads to tell their classmates what they already know about weather and what questions they have. We discovered we all really want to know what causes different types of weather to happen! Here is the link to check it out.
