*Another huge thank you for the cards, snacks, and gifts this week! I have been truly spoiled these past two weeks and am so appreciative of all the kindness and generousity. Thank you, thank you!

**Third grade is trying to start a new tradition this year of having an Iron Chef competition to celebrate the end of the year. We are in need of donations to help with one part of this celebration. Please follow the link below to read more and sign up to help. Thanks!

In the Classroom

In math this week, we learned about how to find equivalent fractions and compare fractions. We also used number lines and discussed adding fractions. We will finish this unit next week and take a short assessment. In writing, we added to our toolkit of poetry skills by learning about alliteration, onomatopoeia, and where to put line breaks. We will choose a poem next week to create a class anthology. In reading, I began administering the end of year assessment. In science, we concluded our life cycle unit by observing our chicks! They began hatching Monday night so we had 5 chicks to look at Tuesday morning.

We even got to see one hatching! I was able to capture it on video so the whole class could watch it on the Smartboard. (I removed the sound from the video)

We were very lucky to have all 12 chicks hatch. Once we moved them over to their new home, we had fun observing them eat, drink, and chirp throughout the day.

We were also able to get them out and observe them up close!

The chicks will be leaving us Friday morning, but we loved being their home for the past two weeks!

In the Classroom

We had a very busy week! In math, students have been continuing their study of fractions. We learned about benchmark fractions as well as fractions of a set. In writing, students read and practiced different types of poetry. I am impressed every day with the details the poets in our room are using! In science, we began our last unit over life cycles. Through this unit, we will be hatching chicks! Here are some pictures of our incubator and the eggs.

We also had a guest speaker come as part of our weather unit we finished last week.  Zach Paul, the meteorologist from KRCG, came on Thursday. He was able to show us real pictures of things we talked about in our unit, as well as teach us about new ideas like radar maps and cold/warm fronts.

Finally, we had a wonderful baby shower Thursday afternoon for Baby Fox! A huge thank you to the parents who organized and threw the shower, and to all the families who donated gifts and gift cards. We are so thankful and appreciative!
