Weekly Update-May 26

Announcements

This was such a fabulous year! Thank you to all families for being supportive, understanding, and kind. I enjoyed seeing your third grader every single day, and they further convinced me I have the best job in the world. I will be seeing some of you again very shortly, as I am teaching the first two weeks of fourth grade summer school. While I may not be your child's home room teacher, they will be rotating into my room at some point during the day.

We had a wonderful and fun last week together! On Tuesday, we went to see the 5th grade Talent Show. The students enjoyed seeing the performances and are already getting ideas for their own time to shine in just a couple of years.

After the Talent Show, we had another Mystery Skype! This time, our mystery classroom was a 4th grade located in Indiana. We were able to use our geography skills and figure out where they were first!

Thank you to everyone who donated food and supplies for our Cooking Day! The kids had a blast making floats, fruit kabobs, cupcakes, and more.

On our last day, we made sure to sign each other's yearbooks and memory books. What a great group of third graders!

Have a wonderful summer!

Weekly Update-May 20

Announcements

It is so hard to believe next week is our last week! We have many fun events and activities planned. There are still a few openings for our 3rd Grade Cooking day. If you can donate, follow the link below. Food and supplies should be sent Tuesday, May 24th or earlier.

Checklists were removed from Friday Folders so grade cards could be completed. We also completed our final Weekly Journal letter. Both the Friday Folder and the Weekly Journal may be kept at home. I hope the journal will be a wonderful keepsake of your third grader's year!

Grade cards will come home on the last day of school, Thursday, May 26th. Please note this is also an early dismissal at 12:50. If your third grader will not be here Thursday, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope so the grade card can be mailed to you. If your third grader has a negative lunch account or books checked out from the library, their grade card will be put in the office until those issues are resolved.

Yearbooks were sent home last week in the Friday folder. If your third grader would like to have their yearbook signed by teachers and classmates, they can bring it back on the last day of school. I will also have a memory book for students to sign if they do not have a yearbook.

In the Classroom
We continued our Measurement unit in math this week. Students learned about units of length, weight, and capacity. On Monday, they completed a measurement scavenger hunt to practice their measuring and estimating skills.

In Science this week, we went back and reviewed Ecosystems to prepare for our field trip to Runge Nature Center. Thank you to our volunteers who accompanied us to Runge. We had a fabulous time, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and had the chance to see some of the concepts we learned in Ecosystems up close!

In reading this week, we began a whole class book club on Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. We continued working on our ABC book of third grade in writing.

May 25-3rd Grade Cooking Day, Field Day during specials

Weekly Update-May 13

Announcements

We are finished with MAP testing! The third graders worked very hard all week and I am proud of them for completing their first MAP test. If your child missed any days of testing, make-ups will be next week.

You should have received a note last week about our upcoming field trip to Runge Nature Center on May 18th. Please note students will need to bring a non-perishable lunch, water bottle, and light backpack to carry everything. We will be leaving around 9:00 and should be returning around 2:30.

You should have received an email from Mrs. Patton about our upcoming Cooking Up Fun Day for 3rd grade. If you are able to donate supplies for this deal, please sign up with the following link.

In the Classroom

In math this week, we began our final unit, Measurement. Students learned about various measurement tools and units and how to measure to a fraction of an inch.

Our chicks hatched! Of the 12 eggs we received, 11 of them hatched. Students were able to see the pips (the first crack) and a few of them actually hatching. This was quite an exciting experience! We had the opportunity to study, read to, and play with our chicks before they were picked up Friday morning.

Students were administered the Developmental Reading Assessment this week. In writing, we started our final writing project. Students will be making an ABC book of their third grade year. Hopefully this will be a wonderful keepsake of their year.
