 Announcements

Please remember there is no school tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 17) or Monday (Feb. 20.)

Your conference confirmation date/time came home in the Friday folder last week. Please let me know if you did not get it or need to reschedule.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Valentine's Day party! Here are some pictures our photographer, Amanda Farris, captured.

We also had fun exchanging our Valentine cards!

In the Classroom

We began our Force unit in Science. Students have explored balanced/unbalanced forces as well as predictable patterns in motion. We also did a slide experiment to study friction. Finally, we began to study the force of magnetism. We will continue to work with magnetism next week.

In reading this week, we used an article about Thomas Edison to practice point of view, inferring, comparing/contrasting, and using text features to locate information.

For writing, each student chose a technology topic and is creating a related opinion piece. We are typing these pieces and hope to have them ready to share at our conference!

We finished Unit 5 in math this week. I will have this test to share at our conference. The next unit will continue to focus on multiplication.

 Announcements

Next week is Counselor Week! Paxton will be celebrating with fun things each day. On Monday, students can wear a hat to school.

Our Valentine's Day party is Friday, February 10th. Thank you to the families who volunteered to help with the party! Please send in valentine cards on this day. We will exchange them prior to the party

This week for Nutrition, Mrs. Zapata taught us about vitamins and minerals. We had a taste test to try different foods high in vitamins and minerals.

Thank you to everyone who sent back their blue conference form. I will do my best to accommodate the date and time you listed. You will get a confirmation note in the Friday folder next week. Please let me know as soon as possible if it needs to be rescheduled.

In the Classroom

We finished our unit on Missouri history this week by discussing our role in the Civil War. Next week, we begin our Force Science unit.

In reading this week, we read a play called "The Trial of Rabbit." We used this piece to practice reading fluently, finding story elements, and comparing and contrasting. We will begin our 5th unit next week called Advancements in Technology.

The students created their personal narrative journal entry this week. They worked hard to go through the publishing stages including drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

We focused on multiplication strategies this week in math. Students learned how to use helper facts to solve unknown facts. For example, 5x7 can help you figure out 6x7. Ms. Olson also led lessons on how to use doubling to solve facts. For example, 2x8 can help you solve 4x8. We will finish this unit up next week.
