practice skype-hannah and harrison

in geography Mrs. Rogers class and Mrs.Fox's class got to do a practice skype for when we do the real skype with some class in another state. Everyone got a job from Mrs.Fox and did their job while skyping with the other class. This is a picture of a reaserchers map. Each class picked a state and the other class had to guess the state over skype but when the class does the real thing we have to guess the state that class really lives in. The classes will guess by asking yes or no questions to each other like do you borderTexas?

Some of the kids used the Ipads to research  and find  out  the anwsers to the other classes questions.
Here are some more pictures.

Planetarium field trip- By Lily

The planetarium was so much fun! The first thing we did was we sat down and the teacher that showed us around introdsed her self. After that we watched the show. I really liked the show because we got to "go in side of" the human body and my favorite parts about the show was when we went in the ear and the heart. Then we watched another show about the human body. In this show we watched there was a woman that was going to have a baby and the doctor in the video said that the woman might have some thing wrong with her heart! We once again went into e human body and checked on her heart. In the end, the woman was just fine and the baby was healthy!

Read Aloud-Sama

When it is read aloud we can lay on the carpet our sit quietly in our desks. In read aloud we are reading a book called The Indian In The Cupboard.

So far what has happend in the story there is a boy named Omri that turned a plactic indian from his birthday present to life.

We are on a chapter called the missing key.

We have been spending our math time learning and memorizing our multiplication facts. Please continue to practice these at home as well. In writing, we have been continuing our expert pieces and are done with the first drafts. All students have finished the reading assessment, so we will return to our normal reading schedule next week. We began our Geography unit this week and are studying maps and globes.

Writing- Trina

Today we continued our expert pieces. A couple of examples of our expert pieces are babysitting, making different recipes, and softball. Here is a picture of my table of contents (this is a draft)

morning work-grant

This is the teacher helping a student with a multiplication problem. Did you know that 78x1000=78000?
Boy I wish that I was on that picture. Wow! I absolutely love math.

Math -Trina

On January 13th we did some multiplication to start the day off. We did a factor and it was 3.

Jessica was showing how to do the problem of 3x8 and her answer was 24 that was right. She showed how to do the problem by making an array. We learned how to do arrays a couple weeks ago but we still  use them because they are very helpful. We did the factors of 0,1,2,3,5,9,and 10. My favorite factor is 0 because they're really easy. Anything X 0 is 0. We also had so many different ways to solve it. That is the fun part because we can see all the different strategies. That is all I have to say about Tuesday!!

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to be back after a relaxing break with friends and family! We are already off to a great start here in room 215. We have spent some time reviewing our rules and procedures, but are also moving full speed ahead with math, reading, and writing. In writing today, we continued working on our expert pieces for our non-fiction unit. Before break, each student chose a topic for which they already know a lot about. Today, we brainstormed by doing a long write. Students wrote down everything they knew about their topic. Here are some examples:

Tomorrow, we will start looking at their long writes and putting their information into groups.  This will eventually become the table of contents for their piece.

Students will be bringing information home today, but tomorrow will be our first late start due to the low temperatures. We will start exactly two hours late. The tardy bell will be ringing at 10:20. Lunch and dismissal will be at the regular times.
