Weekly Update-May 5

Announcements

One week of MAP testing done! The students have been working hard, and we are ready to tackle the Math portion of the test. We will be testing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week. Please refrain from scheduling appointments during this time. It is also important third graders are here on time, as they are not allowed into the classroom once we begin testing and will have to do make-up testing.

Click here to find out about our 3rd Annual Cooking Day on Wednesday, May 24th!

Weekly Journals were not completed this week.

We had our final time with our MU students, Ms. Rockwell and Ms. Jordan. We loved having them in our classroom this semester and wish them luck next year!

Please see below for an important note about the Comet Carnival!

Calling on our awesome Paxton Families!

The Carnival Committee is meeting on May 10th at 6:30pm in the Media Center. We are in desperate need of Chair or Co-Chair for this event. We also need someone to head up our silent auction and business sponsorships.
I understand it sounds intimidating and scary. However, you have a team of energetic, go-getters at your disposal. Our team needs the leader to delegate responsibilities, plan meetings, and stay on top of the various aspects of the carnival. The silent auction leader needs to gather items and mark for the auction. The business sponsorship needs to ask local businesses to sponsor our bounce house, photo booth, dunk tank, and games. The great part is we have several things in place and the job is over Oct. 6th!
If we don’t have the chair, our Carnival will look very differently in the fall. This means that it will not be the money maker it has been in the past. Bottom line is that it will directly impact your child.
PTA funds are used for teacher grants, special funding requests, field trips, instructional materials, and special events for our families. In addition to these things, we are looking to improve, update, and provide more technology for our students. The Carnival will have a huge impact on what we can and cannot do as a PTA to support Paxton students' needs.
Therefore, please consider joining us on Wednesday, May 10th at 6:30pm. Bring a friend and see how you can pitch in to make difference for your child in the next school year! The committee is a wonderful group of parents that want to help our school and all the children at Paxton. The Carnival is truly a fun, family event and you can make a direct impact on your child's educational experience!

In the Classroom

We finished our Fraction unit this week and took a quiz on Tuesday. Those are located in the Friday folder. We spent some time this week preparing for the math portion of the MAP test and will begin our final unit, Measurement, next week.

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our Poetry unit! On Monday, students read their published poems out loud to their classmates.

We started our final writing project on Wednesday. Students will be creating an ABC book of their 3rd grade year. We began by reading a variety of ABC books and brainstorming a list of words for each letter.

I began administering the Developmental Reading Assessment this week in reading.

We have chick eggs! I know many of you were able to see the eggs at our breakfast but here is a close-up.

We will be using these eggs to study life cycles. Hopefully we will have 12 healthy chicks to study next week!

We have also been finishing our Ecosystems unit. Students learned about animal adaptations through a scavenger hunt and have enjoyed seeing the grass grow in their bottle ecosystems.
