Our Poetry Breakfast was a huge success! The students had a blast sharing their poetry with their families and eating all of the delicious food.
Thank you to everyone for the goodies and gifts this week! I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful families this year. It was a very special week!
Another huge thank you to everyone who contributed to Ms. Daniel's gift. She was very touched and overwhelmed with all the new supplies and books to help start her classroom.
We have started MAP testing. We will test Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week. Please avoid scheduling appointments during the mornings of these days and have your third grader here on time. There will be no homework next week, as we would like students to focus on relaxing their brains and getting plenty of sleep.
In the Classroom
In math this week, students have been learning about volume. On Tuesday, we analyzed box patterns to predict how many cubic units could fit inside. Then we created our own boxes. We will be reviewing for the math portion of the MAP test next week and then beginning our final unit on Measurement.
We started our final Science unit this week, Life Cycles. On Monday, there was a special delivery to our classroom. We received 12 beautiful chick eggs! This week, we learned about what was happening inside our eggs as they keep warm in the incubator. If everything goes as planned, our eggs will hatch Monday and Tuesday of next week. We will be sure to take lots of pictures next week with our fuzzy, classroom guests.
We continued practicing for the MAP test in reading this week. We learned about 12 power words that could be on the test in some form. These are words like describe, contrast, summarize, and infer.
In writing, we finished our poetry unit! This week students took their favorite poems through the publishing process and shared them during the poetry breakfast. Thank you to all of those who joined us for our breakfast and brought a dish to share! -Ms. Daniels
