We added more vocabulary to our brains in Geometry this week. We learned about about the different kinds of angles as well as polygons. We began our Opinion writing unit this week. I am excited to hear and read about the strong opinions our third graders have! In case you missed the note sent home earlier this week, we are in need of plastic, 2 liter bottles for our science unit. Please wash out and send to school as soon as possible so we are ready to create our science project.

Friday folder checklists were removed this week due to Parent Teacher Conferences. Weekly Journals were not completed this week. Both will resume next week.

Opinion writing by caleb and jarenzo

We are starting opinion writing.  For example, like dogs rule cats not so much. We had 45 min  to write our opinion piece.  Mrs. Kruse was in our class and said she likes dogs better!

These people were working hard on writing.

In the Classroom

We finished division in math and have moved on to Geometry. As this is a very vocabulary-heavy unit, we will be spending lots of time going over words, definition, and examples. I will be sharing multiplication timed tests as well as division tests at conferences. In writing, students have finished their non-fiction pieces! We will celebrate next week and then begin our unit on opinion writing. Students are working on fiction chapter books in reading.

We successfully had our Mystery Skype last week! Our mystery state was Vermont, and the students did a wonderful job asking/answering questions and researching to figure out which state our mystery class was in. We will definitely be partaking in more Mystery Skypes this year, as it was so much fun and the students put their geography skills to use!

We will be starting our Ecosystems science unit next week. As part of this unit, students will be making bottle ecosystems. Our class will need about 15 clear, 2-liter soda bottles. If you have any empty bottles at home, please wash them out and send them with your third grader. Thank you in advance!

The book that we are reading in read aloud is White Star a Dog on the Titanic.

The people that we are reading with some of the 3rd grade classes.

This is Miss. Fox's class.

Miss. Fox asks questions about the book.

The mystery skype by: kyan and addie

Today we had a mystery skype and they guessed our state first and we of course were MIssouri and we guessed theirs second and they were Vermont.  A mystery skype is something where you pick a state and you have to ask yes and no questions to find out the other persons state. If they were not yes and no questions you could just say what is your state.  Did you know Vermont produces the most maple syrup then any other state in america which is 500,000 pounds.

In the Classroom

In math, students have been learning about division. We have studied how division and multiplication are related, as well as how to solve division word problems. We will continue to work on division next week and then begin our geometry unit. In writing, students are entering the final stages of their non-fiction pieces. We will be publishing next week. Students are allowed to print off pictures from home for their piece, but it is not required. Weekly Journals were not completed this week. In reading, students are leading their own book clubs.

Students may have talked to you about our Mystery Skype in geography. We did a practice skype with Mrs. Rogers' class where we each chose a country and the other class had to guess which one by asking yes or no geography questions. The real skype will be done with a 3rd grade class in another state. We were supposed to do this Thursday, but it was cancelled because of the late start. We will reschedule soon!

writing-Hannah

In writing we all needed at least two of those features to put in our book we are writing in class.
We are working on making our stories stronger and pulling our readers in to our books.
We will also be  having another student read our book and see if it makes sense to the reader. We also got a check list to make sure we have every thing we need to make a great story. The class has the choice to pick out a photograph for our story to make it make more sense. Here are our first drafts.  Here are some more pictures of good examples in writing.
