  Announcements

There is a form in the Friday folder with your date and time for Parent Teacher Conferences. Please let me know as soon as possible if we need to reschedule. Thank you in advance for helping me reach our 100% attendance goal!

Last week, we visited the Technology Museum in our media center! The students had fun seeing how technology has changed over time and getting to explore. We were able to use a sewing machine, make a phone call on a rotary phone, and even use a pen and quill!

We had our last class with Ms. Zapata for nutrition this week. We learned about the digestive system as well as the 4 taste bud categories of sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. Students were able to sample a food from each of these groups.

We had a great Valentine's Day!

In the Classroom

In reading this week, we used an article about innovations to help the deaf or hard of hearing. Students identified important and unimportant information and also used sequencing to determine the order of events.

Students are busy drafting their technology opinion piece. Most students are done with their first draft. We will work on revising, editing, and publishing next week. These pieces will be ready for you to take home at our conference.

In math this week, we continued our focus on multiplication. We used a multiplication/division diagram to help with word problems and used our strategies to solve problems with larger factors. For example, we can solve 5 x 12 by breaking the 12 into a 2 and a 10. Once we solve 5 x 2 and 5 x 10, we can add the products together.

We have continued studying Missouri's role in the Civil War this week. Students have learned about causes of the Civil War, the Missouri Compromise, and Dred Scott. We will do a short health unit next week before starting our Weather Unit.
