April 5, 2019

Announcements

SAVE THE DATE!
We will be having a poetry breakfast on Friday, May 10 from 7:40-8:20. We would love for you to join us!

Please note the calendar change! April 10 was supposed to be an early dismissal but will now be a full day of school.

We have our MAP testing schedule. Third grade will be testing 4/29, 5/1, 5/2, and 5/3. Please refrain from scheduling appointments or vacations on these days. We will mainly test in the morning period beginning at 9:30. It is important your third grader is here to avoid having to do make-up testing.

We will need clear, 2 liter bottles for a science project. If you happen to have any at home, please send them in. Thank you in advance!

In the Classroom

In math this week, we revisited multiplication and division. Students learned how to use basic facts to solve extended facts for both. For example, I can use 7x3=21 to solve 210 divided by 3. We focused on multiples of 10. Students also learned about factor pairs.

We began poetry this week! I am already so impressed with the poems the third graders have been creating. We started the week by creating a class Padlet for things we already know and feel about poetry.

Here are just a few samples of the poetry we have written this week.

In reading this week, we focused on MAP strategies. We practiced reading the questions before the text, highlighting important information, and crossing off answers we know are incorrect.

We  finished our health unit this week. We talked about eating habits and My Plate at the beginning of the week. We ended the unit by discussing stress and how it can impact our health. Students identified things that cause stress in their lives and we discussed coping strategies.
