Announcements

It's hard to believe the school year is already over! As I will be teaching 4th grade summer school, I may seem some families at the Open House on Thursday. Thank you all for a fabulous year!

Our last day of school is Tuesday, May 28. This is an early dismissal day at 12:50. Please send a note or email if your third grader will be going home from school a different way than normal. The district has said absences will be excused on this day, so grade cards came home on Friday. 

Our annual Cooking Day on Friday was so much fun! In my classroom, students learned about solids, liquids, and gases. We then made a treat that has each one.

In the Classroom

We focused on measuring this week in math. This included the mini Metric Olympics on Tuesday!

We celebrated our ABC of Third Grade Books on Wednesday. Students shared their writing with their classmates and enjoyed some ABC cookies.

Announcements

Friday folders were not sent home this week so I could complete grade cards. This was also the last week for Weekly Journals. Please keep the journals as a memory of your third grader's year. I hope you will enjoy them for many years to come!

Our last day of school is Tuesday, May 28. This is an early dismissal day at 12:50. The district has said absences will be excused on this day, so grade cards will be coming home Friday, May 24. If your student will not be here those two days, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope for their grade card to be mailed. 

Thursday was field day! 

  On Tuesday, we had 8th grade students from Smithton Middle School walk over to read with us. 

In the Classroom

In math this week, we continued getting a preview of 4th grade concepts. Students used their multiplication skills to solve larger problems, including 2 digit by 1 digit. We will finish this unit next week but will not assess over it.

We worked hard on our ABC of Third Grade books this week. We will finish these next week and celebrate.

We continued our whole class book club on Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing this week. We will complete the book next week.

Announcements

What a fun week we have had! From our field trip, to hatching chicks, to the school-wide talent show, our students have loved it. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and gifts for teacher appreciation week. I truly love this job and working with your children each day. 

Thursday is Field Day at Paxton! Students will be rotating through various games/activities for about 2 hours in the morning. Some of these stations will involve water, so please have third graders bring a change of clothes, including different shoes. 

We had a beautiful day at Red Top Ranch on Monday. After a delicious lunch, students got to see cattle being given an ultrasound, learn about feed, see vintage tractors, and name baby calves. 

We had the school talent show on Thursday this week. Eli and Mollie represented our classroom wonderfully! 

In the Classroom

We started our final unit in math this week. This unit gives a sneak peek at what students will be doing in 4th grade.

We began our final writing project this week. Students will be creating an ABC book of their 3rd grade year. We brainstormed and started drafting this week. I hope the finished product will be something your family treasures. 

In reading, we are doing a whole class book club on Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing.

All 12 of our chicks hatched this week! We were lucky to catch some of the hatching on video. Students loved learning about the parts of the egg and the chick. Of course, their favorite part has been playing with the chicks.
