In the Classroom
In math this week, students learned about comparing and ordering numbers. We also focused on making an organized list to solve word problems. We assessed over this unit on Friday. We will begin our Addition unit next week.

Students took a quiz over the 100 no excuse words this week. Please see the letter in the Friday folder for more information.

We finished our partner interviews! The students worked very hard on these and are proud of the completed projects. On Wednesday, they received their blank writer's notebook. I gave them 20 minutes to do any type of writing they wanted. We had comic strips, fictional stories, personal narratives, and research being written in our room. It was wonderful to see that everyone wanted to write about something! Don't forget to return decorated notebooks Tuesday. We will focus on our first unit, Personal Narratives, next week.

In shared reading this week, we learned about George Washington Carver. We used this book to focus on activating our background knowledge.

I also began adminstering the Developmental Reading Assessment. If there are concerns, I will be contacting you. These assessments will be shared at our conference in November.

In social studies, we learned that a community is a place where people live, work, and play. We read the book, S is for Show Me, A Missouri Alphabet. We then narrowed our focus to our community of Columbia. We will be creating an ABC of Columbia book that will be shared soon!
