Weekly Update-August 28

Whew! Another week has flown by here in room 215, and we have been super busy. Keep reading to find out what we've been up to...

In the Classroom

I enjoyed reading the student cards for their Me Museum! Mrs. McClelland also took pictures for me so I could see their displays.

In math, students have been reviewing their understanding of our number system and place value. We have discussed the 3 ways to name numbers; standard form, word form, and expanded form. We also talked about how to compare numbers using greater than and less than symbols. We have learned some new games this week like Place It and Place Value Compare. Here we are playing a Toss and Talk game about number lines.

In Social Studies this week, we learned about communities. Students learned about different symbols of our country such as the flag and national anthem. Each student then designed a flag that would represent our classroom community.

We voted on the flag we thought would represent our class the best. The winner is...

Jiya's flag!

In reading, Mrs. McClelland and the students have been learning about our classroom library and how to be successful readers. In writing, students have been conducting classmate interviews. They finished the interviews this week and will be publishing them next week. We also wrote our first Weekly Journal letter. This notebook will hopefully be a wonderful keepsake for your family for years to come. Please write a letter back to your third grader and return the notebook no later than Wednesday of the following week.

Our class blogger for the week, Geeth, took pictures during Art this week. Students learned about warm and cool colors, as well as geometric and organic shapes.
