Third grade is MAP testing on April 28, 29, 30, and May 1st. It is imperative students are here on time these days, as we will begin testing first thing in the morning. There is a blue paper with more information in the Friday folder this week!

Please save the date for our upcoming Paxton Keeley Comet Culture Night on Thursday, April 24th, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be many fun activities and performances for families to enjoy, including cultural displays, an art show, and a music performance. We are looking forward to celebrating the many cultures and languages represented at Paxton Keeley!

The students did a wonderful job performing at the Spring Sing!

We had a wonderful trip to the Capitol a few weeks ago! While the weather put a damper on lunch plans, all of the students seemed to enjoy the day.

In the Classroom

In reading this week, students used an excerpt from Sarah Plain and Tall to practice metacognitive strategies, using illustrations for understanding, and how to analyze character actions.

In writing this week, students finished their Historical Fiction pieces. Each student was asked to use their knowledge of plot elements to create a story. Their story had to take place during a historical event. We had some very creative writers during this unit!

In math this week, we learned how to measure to the nearest 1/4 of an inch. We also used our multiplication skills to solve extended facts. For example, I can use 6 x 7 = 42 to solve 6 x 70 = 420.

We started our Famous Missourian unit in Social Studies. We began by learning about various cultures and then narrowed it down to Missouri culture. We studied some notable Missourians, and each student was asked to choose one to research further. Be on the lookout for a classroom event next month to come see their Famous Missourian project!
