I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break!

Third grade will be MAP testing April 16-19. Please avoid any appointments or vacations during this time. We will test in the morning times. More information will be coming soon!

We had a relaxing camping day filled with reading by flashlight, watching a movie, and smore's treats!

In the Classroom

We finished our Benchmark unit this week by looking for the central message in a narrative story as well as a poem.

Students finished their opinion piece this week. They were asked to read two stories about the same character, choose a trait to describe him, and support their answers using evidence from the texts.

We finished our Fraction unit this week with a test. After Spring Break, we will get back to multiplication and division. Please continue to practice multiplication facts with 3rd graders to help improve their fact fluency.

We finished our Weather and Climate unit this week. Mrs. Hanson came in each day to do a Lego Engineer project with us. Students learned about where and when in Missouri we have to worry about flooding. Then students used Lego kits to design and code a working floodgate! Here is a video of a working floodgate as well as pictures from our week with Mrs. Hanson.

We also had a special guest visitor on Friday morning! We were able to meet and learn from Beth Finnelo who is the morning meteorologist on KOMU.

MAP testing is quickly approaching! Third grade will be testing April 16-19. Please avoid any appointments or vacations during this time. We will test in the morning times. More information will be coming soon!

Please note there is no school on March 20 for a teacher workday.

In the Classroom

In reading this week, students have been using fictional texts to practice various comprehension skills. We analyzed a story to find the moral, made connections, and recounted story events.

Our writing this unit consists of students completing all three genres; narrative, opinion, and informative. You will find their narrative piece in the Friday folder. They were asked to analyze the story for plot elements and then finish the ending. We also began looking at an informational text about archeologist Mary Leakey. Students were asked to write about how she changed the world.

We have been working hard to learn all about fractions this week! Students identified fractions on a number line and learned how to use benchmark fractions to compare.

We began our Weather and Climate unit last week. Students learned how to analyze the clouds to determine if a storm is coming. We also learned about weather predicting and climate patterns.
