Our first full week of 3rd grade was fantastic! It started out with the most amazing experience on Monday during the Eclipse.

We also enjoyed some Eclipse themed snacks afterwards.

We still have many openings for our room parties this year! We also have the position of Room Parent Coordinator available. Please use the links below to sign up.

In the Classroom

We really began to learn all about our new math program this week. Our focus areas included telling time to the nearest minute, estimating and rounding using a number line, and subtracting numbers using a number grid as a resource.

In writing this week, students began their classmate interviews. We spent Tuesday and Wednesday learning about each other through interview questions. On Thursday, we began turning those answers into complete sentences. We will continue this process next week in preparation for publishing.

We also began our weekly routine of Weekly Journals on Friday. Please see the note taped to the inside cover of the journal for more information. I hope every family can find the time to write back to their third grader!

We spent time in reading this week setting up our classroom routines. Students toured the classroom library and practiced getting and returning books. We discussed and made a list of what we expect and want during reading time. Finally, we talked about how to choose Just Right books from the library to enhance our reading skills. Students loved getting to independently read!

In social studies this week, we studied symbols. Each student was asked to create a class flag to be a symbol of our classroom community. We voted on which flag we wanted to represent our class, and Peyton S.'s flag was the winner!

We have had an amazing first week here in third grade! We spent time getting to know each other and learning about our classroom. We have been working hard on building those relationships and creating our own little community.

Friday folders were sent home this week, but did not have checklists. Checklists will be completed next week. Please remove the papers from the folder and initial the checklist.

We still have many openings for our room parties this year! We also have the position of Room Parent Coordinator available. Please use the links below to sign up.

In the Classroom

We did many activities this week to get to know each other. Here are just a few pictures of the many way we are learning about each other.

We began exploring our new math materials this week. Students had five minutes to "play" with the manipulatives. We then discussed how these manipulatives are now tools to help us learn and should not be treated like toys.

We also did a fun math game called Figure Me Out where students got to know each other by figuring out math equations.

We discussed how we wanted our classroom to be, what we expected from each other, and how we learn best.

We used these ideas and our discussion to create our class promise:

Mrs. Fox's class will be respectful to each other and all adults. We will make sure our classroom is quiet when it needs to be so everyone can learn. We will listen to each other's ideas. Mrs. Fox's class agrees to be kind to one another. We will not yell at each other, no matter how frustrated we get.  We agree to help other people. We will cooperate and share. We agree to be safe by pushing in our chairs and walking carefully. We will be responsible by picking up after ourselves and keeping our classroom clean. Our class will take care of personal and classroom supplies and materials. Mrs. Fox's class will always respect each other's differences. We will treat others the way we want to be treated.

I loved getting to see all of the student's Me Museum exhibits! Students were able to present their exhibit to the classmates at their tables and then walk around to see other displays.

I am so excited about this school year and this fabulous group of third graders!
